Until Hunger Goes Away
The Foodbank is a warehouse or "bank" where recovered and contributed food is collected, sorted and distributed to over 500 agencies including church pantries and area Kids Cafes who then disburse or prepare and serve the food to those in need.

The Federation of Virginia Food Banks is a state association of food banks affiliated with Feeding America and is the largest hunger relief network in the State. The Federation is composed of the 7 regional Virginia and Washington DC food banks, consisting of facilities in 14 strategic locations. The Federation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation created to support the food banks in providing food, funding, education, advocacy, and awareness services and programs throughout the Commonwealth. The primary mission of the food banks is to feed hungry Virginians, and in fiscal year 2006 distributed over 70 million pounds of products to over 658,200 individuals through its 2,800 member agencies that directly serve those in need.

Vision: A Commonwealth in which individuals and families have access to adequate, affordable, high-quality human/social services that enable them to be the best they can.
Learn and Live
The association's impact goal is to reduce coronary heart disease, stroke and risk by 25 percent by 2010. Progress toward the goal will be measured according to these indicators:
* Reduce the death rate from coronary heart disease and stroke by 25 percent.
* Reduce the prevalence of smoking, high blood cholesterol and physical inactivity by 25 percent.
* Reduce the rate of uncontrolled high blood pressure by 25 percent.
* Eliminate the growth of obesity and diabetes.
To educate students in the fundamental knowledge and academic subjects that they need to become capable, responsible, and self-reliant citizens. Therefore, the mission of the Virginia Board of Education and the superintendent of public instruction, in cooperation with local school boards, is to increase student learning and academic achievement.
No one should go hungry in America.
FNS provides children and low-income people access to food, a healthful diet, and nutrition education.

Distributing Food, Nourishing our Community
CAFB is the largest, public nonprofit hunger and nutrition education resource in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area. Each year the CAFB distributes 20 million pounds of food, including 6 million pounds of fresh produce, to over 700 partner agencies. The Capital Area Food Bank was founded on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday, January 15, 1980.
Serves the statewide medical community with information, regulations, etc.

2-1-1 VIRGINIA information and referral center gathers facts on health and human services and provides information to individuals, families, agencies and organizations. The center acts as a central point of access to all human services.
North-central and north western Virgnia. Serves 25 counties and 9 cities. Serve over 100,000 people in their service area.
Knowledge for the Commonwealth
Help Virginians improve their lives by providing research-based educational resources through a network of on-college campus and local Extension offices and educators. Virginia Cooperative Extension responds to the needs of individuals, families, groups and organizations with educational programs in the three broad areas of agriculture and natural resources, family and consumer sciences, and 4-H youth development. Residents of Virginia can participate in our programs through their local Extension office.

VDA is designated by the federal government as the agency to oversee all state programs using funds provided by the federal Older Americans Act and the Virginia General Assembly. Area Agencies on Aging contract with the Department to provide services for older Virginians and their families in communities throughout Virginia.

OSHHR oversees twelve state agencies which provide often-vital services to Virginians with mental retardation, mental illness, substance abuse and physical disability concerns; to low-income working families; and to the aging community. In addition, our agencies license health practitioners and ensure safe drinking water in the Commonwealth.
